In the advent of rather peaceful
   democracy in the mid-1990's ushered
in new Political reforms in South
   Africa, coupled with a reinvented
   concept of national pride and
   patriotism. Power dressing started
   long before democratic change as
people living in the townships always
had a wonderful sense of pride

With no access to fashion magazines
and television had a natural flair for
colour and style. Dressing up was a
vital stand in Southern African culture
  and civilization.
Elegant dressing has been a pride of
  place in the rural townships.
  Power dressing has always been
  synonymous with power hence there
has always been a link between
fashion and prestige in Southern Africa
Dressing up was a celebration of the
  African man and his renowned
  Sartorial elegance

I had predicted long before democratic
  change that the valuable black
  consumer with impeccable style and
taste would become the buying power
in South Africa and I was right.
  International fashion labels has
  become must-haves in the boardroom
and also on the streets of the rural
  townships.
